Basnight’s Lone Cedar Cafe in Nags Head, NC

Great views, relaxing atmosphere, fresh off the boat seafood, friendly service and unbeatable waterfront views, Basnight’s Lone Cedar Cafe has everything you’d expect and hope for in an exceptional restaurant on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Similar to Tale of the Whale, a neighboring restaurant to the east, Basnight’s offers diners exceptional waterfront views of the scenic Roanoke Sound. Not every seat in the place in the place enjoys the same terrific views, but many do. If it’s not too busy, be sure to ask for a table near the rear windows that overlook the water!

The bar is huge, and they have an exuberant amount of wine to choose from. If grapes aren’t your thing, consider one of their many beers on tap, or have one of the talented bartenders whip together a mix drink or whiskey on the rocks. If you have to wait for a table, hit the bar for your drink and enjoy your beverage outside and enjoy the cool breezes and waterfront view.

Most of the menu is sourced locally, and the items available change with the seasons. If you dine at Basnight’s, we highly recommend ordering a seafood entree. Their chefs are stellar, and the fish, crabs and shellfish used in their dishes is of the best possible quality.

Dinner comes with cornbread and rolls, and specials are available daily. There is plenty of variety on their menus, you’re sure to find at least a few things that sound tantalizing.

In addition to seafood entrees, you can also order a hormone-free chicken or aged beef entree. Most main courses come with sides, and we highly recommend the mac ‘n cheese and collard greens. The sweet potatoes are also delicious.

When your meal is coming to an end, do NOT pass on dessert. The key lime pie is wonderful, as is the blueberry cheesecake which is well worth the extra calories. Trust us, you want the dessert!

Basnight’s Lone Cedar Cafe is open for dinner and brunch (hands down one of the top five best brunches on the Outer Banks!) on Sunday. Planning to eat at Basnight’s for dinner? Consider arriving early as the restaurant is really popular and very busy around dinner time.

A terrific restaurant for large parties and special events, Basnight’s has plenty of space in their dining room for big groups, and they have been doing catering for weddings and special events for many years.

If you’re seeking a truly delicious meal that can be enjoyed at a waterfront setting, look no further than Basnight’s Lone Cedar Cafe in Nags Head!
